#0009 – File under: Chicago, Party

Play

Less than 48 hours to go until the crew rolls in, this is part 1 of a two-part theme music set. If you’re in the right headspace for mischief, this set makes sense. At any rate, artists include an almost unrecognizeable Metallica, The Blues Brothers, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Tower of Power, Granddaddy, a little Schoolhouse Rock action, Kinobe, Ladytron, Badly Drawn Boy, Shriekback, The White Stripes, Muddy Waters, 311, The Go! Team, Q-Tip and Luther Allison.

If you’re going to go on a tear through Chicago, this mix is entirely appropriate 🙂

#0008 – File under: Lollapalooza, Fresh

Play

I sneak in a fresh mix of music by artists playing at Lollapalooza — and I probably won’t see any of them (but that may, of course, change). Enjoy this fresh mix by Kinky, Motion City Soundtrack, Silversun Pickups, Heartless Bastards, Lupe Fiasco, Jack’s Mannequin, I’m From Barcelona, Cold War Kids, Tokyo Police Club, Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini, Regina Spektor, Iggy Pop, Ryan Shaw, Peter Bjorn and John, Dear and the Headlights and, finally, The Cribs. With music this good that I probably won’t get to see live, you better believe how awesome the acts I do catch are. Enjoy it while it’s fresh, we’re days away from Lolla at this point and I’m too excited.

#0007 – File under: Anniversary

Play

This week’s podcast is filled with songs I was listening to in the summer of 1994, which is the summer I met Suzy. This week is our 11th anniversary (everyone give her a shout out). So even though I doubt she’s listening, this episode is specifically for her. Artists include Jellyfish, The Boo Radleys, Cake, Stereo MCs, U2, Big Country, Crowded House, James, Belly, The Breeders, Rancid, Smashing Pumkins, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star and Climax Blues Band. Okay… Climax Blues Band isn’t from the summer of ’94, but it’s our wedding song, so deal 😛

#0003 – File under: Punk, History

This week’s episode of Radio Gen1us takes us to the very cliffs of insanity that were the American Punk scene starting in the late 60s with The Velvet Underground and their connections to the UK with the Sex Pistols and the Clash.
