#0103 – Run ’93

Play
Fall of 1993. I was beginning my second year at my third university, living at home, working for minimum wage at a used CD shop, driving my beat-to-hell 1984 black Ford Thunderbird. No girlfriend, my buddy Adam’s old driver’s license so I had a fake ID and I was living the high life.
This is what I was listening to on some AM station in Milwaukee back then. Maybe it was WLZR-AM?

#0095 As We Enter

Play
It’s only been since, like, April since I did one of these things. I’m frankly amazed I remembered the password after all this time.
What follows is a non-stop mix of some of my favorite tracks that came out in 2010. It’s kinda dance-y. I figured you all might like to party. It sobers up a bit toward the end, but I leave you wanting another sip.
My resolution for 2011: Execution. If I stick to that, it means more time with friends and family, and taking care of my peeps — giving you good music that gets you through a hard day of keeping it real.
Stay thirsty my friends. I have some thoughts brewing on a playlist around Design Thinking. I’m hoping to at least post one mix a month. I think that’s a reasonable goal, don’t you?

#0018 – File under: Breakup

This week’s mix comes from a tender spot as two longtime friends seem to be drifting apart and my heart and thoughts go out to both of them. I think they could use a good cry, so if they’re listening, I hope this brings them to the same table so they can work out what’s going down. And since I’m feeling all emo, I’ll share some favorite cry-it-out tunes from O.A.R., Jude Cole, Indigo Girls, Genesis, Hüsker Du, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Crowded House, Del Amitri, Thomas Dolby, The Verve, Aimee Mann, Imogen Heap and Elliott Smith. Listen and make sure you give (and get) a hug.

#0017 – File under: Serenity Now

We chill out after last week’s fit of rage and hate with a not-all-unexpected eclectic mix featuring the likes of Darryl Hall, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Coldplay, Crowded House, Groove Armada, Sumsonic, The Chemical Brothers, The Whitest Boy Alive, Ladytron, The Ramones, Queen, Three Dog Night, Alice Cooper, Sugar, The Beatles and Oasis.  Trust me: the mix is alright.

#0007 – File under: Anniversary

This week’s podcast is filled with songs I was listening to in the summer of 1994, which is the summer I met Suzy. This week is our 11th anniversary (everyone give her a shout out). So even though I doubt she’s listening, this episode is specifically for her. Artists include Jellyfish, The Boo Radleys, Cake, Stereo MCs, U2, Big Country, Crowded House, James, Belly, The Breeders, Rancid, Smashing Pumkins, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star and Climax Blues Band. Okay… Climax Blues Band isn’t from the summer of ’94, but it’s our wedding song, so deal 😛
